Federal banking regulations. Cannabis is still illegal at the federal level, so most banks won’t process cannabis transactions. That means dispensaries and delivery services can’t accept credit cards or digital payments the way other businesses can.
Some dispensaries are starting to accept debit cards through workarounds, but cash is still the default. When you order for delivery, plan to have cash on hand when the driver shows up.
It’s inconvenient, but it’s not a red flag. Every legal dispensary in New York deals with the same issue. Until federal law changes, cash is how the industry operates.
