No. New York allows recreational cannabis sales to anyone 21 or older. You don’t need a medical marijuana card, a doctor’s note, or any kind of registration. Just bring a valid government-issued ID that proves your age.
That’s a big shift from how things used to work. Medical dispensaries required you to go through a doctor, get approved for specific conditions, and register with the state. Now, if you’re an adult, you can walk into any licensed dispensary and buy cannabis the same way you’d buy alcohol.
The only difference is that medical cardholders sometimes get access to higher potency limits or tax exemptions, depending on the state’s rules. But for most people, recreational access is simpler and faster.
Every product we sell is tested by a New York State-certified lab before it reaches our shelves. Those tests check for THC and CBD levels, pesticides, heavy metals, mold, and other contaminants. If something doesn’t pass, it doesn’t get sold.
You’ll see that information on the label—cannabinoid percentages, batch numbers, and sometimes even the lab name. That’s required by law for all licensed dispensaries in New York. Edibles are cannabis-infused foods or drinks. They take longer to kick in—usually 30 minutes to two hours—because they have to be digested first. But the effects last longer, often four to six hours. Edibles are good if you don’t want to smoke or if you’re looking for longer-lasting relief.
Concentrates are extracted forms of cannabis with much higher THC levels—often 60% to 90% compared to 15% to 25% in flower. They include things like wax, shatter, and oils. You use them with a vaporizer or dab rig. Concentrates are for experienced users who want stronger effects with less product. If you’re new to cannabis, start with flower or a low-dose edible.

Start with something low-dose and easy to control. A low-THC preroll or a 5mg edible is usually a safe starting point. With a preroll, you can take one or two hits, wait 15 minutes, and see how you feel before deciding whether to continue. With an edible, take half or the full 5mg dose, then wait at least 90 minutes before taking more.
The biggest mistake first-timers make is taking too much too fast, especially with edibles. It’s not dangerous, but it’s uncomfortable—anxiety, dizziness, paranoia. Those effects will pass, but they’re not fun. Start small. You can always take more next time.
When you visit our marijuana dispensary, tell the budtender you’re new. They’ll walk you through options, explain what to expect, and recommend something that won’t overwhelm you. There’s no judgment. Half the people who come in are still figuring it out.
We accept cash, debit card, and Dutchie Pay. If you’re paying with a debit card, it usually processes as an ATM withdrawal, so you might see a small fee depending on your bank. We also have an ATM on-site if you need to pull cash before checking out.
Credit cards aren’t an option yet because cannabis is still federally illegal, which makes most credit card processors unwilling to work with dispensaries. That’s frustrating, but it’s the reality of the industry right now. Cash and debit are your best bets.
