Ithaca's only seed-to-shelf cannabis microbusiness, growing small-batch greenhouse flower on Dryden Road
Upstate Haze is a licensed New York adult-use cannabis microbusiness at 1280 Dryden Road in Ithaca, NY, just off Route 13 and about seven minutes from Cornell University. The company is co-owned by James Steiner Jr. and Riley Rynone, childhood friends who grew up in the neighboring towns of Newfield and Spencer. Upstate Haze was the first microbusiness dispensary to open in Ithaca, and it operates under New York State license OCM-MICR-24-000102.
A microbusiness license lets Upstate Haze grow, process, and sell its own cannabis under one small, locally rooted license, which the team describes as “seed to shelf.” Plants are cultivated in off-site greenhouses in small, hands-on batches, and the shop also sources product from local farmers across the Finger Lakes region. Each season’s crop takes time to finish, and customers are invited to stop into the shop to ask about its progress. The owners have also said they plan to let customers vote on future strains.
The house lineup includes Hazy Z, a sativa flower sold in 14g pre-packed bags and lab-tested at about 19.1% THC, along with Upstate Haze branded apparel. The Ithaca shop also carries flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, concentrates, and accessories from other New York brands, with online ordering for in-store pickup.
The store offers free parking, an on-site ATM, and debit card payments, and it welcomes pets. The owners say their mission is to distribute cannabis safely and educate the Ithaca community, and they hope to grow the space into a local gathering spot with events and outdoor seating.
